Risør offers unique experiences and activities all year round - and winter is no exception.
It's all happening in Risør! 🎷🎸
🗓 The event calendar can be found further down the page.
Although the city is best known for its summer idyll, it has a lot to offer during the quiet winter months. Here are some of the best things to do in Risør when the cold sets in.
Risør Havbad and winter swimming
For the adventurous, Risør Havbad is a must. The combination of ice bathing and a hot sauna provides a unique experience that both energizes and relaxes. If you don't dare to swim, you can relax inside and enjoy the view of the sea.
Everythingthat's good for the body, soul - and taste buds
After you've challenged your body with an ice bath and found peace of mind in the sauna, it's time to indulge your taste buds at one of the town's excellent eateries.
Rådhusgata Spiseri and Promenaden are among those open throughout the winter, offering delicately presented food with seasonal menus.
Get an overview of all the town's eateries and bars here. 🥂🦐
Enjoy winter's best shellfish
Did you know that winter is the peak season for shellfish? At Risør Fiskemottak you can secure fresh shrimps, crabs and other top quality seafood. Take a shellfish platter home with you, or enjoy a good meal in one of the town's restaurants.
Intimate concerts at Stranden
Stranden Café in Risør has become known for its intimate Saturday concerts, and this winter you can look forward to artists such as Thom Hell and "The Bills".
The organizer is Arve Bøe, an acclaimed guitarist and musician from Bergen, who has now made Risør his home. With a long career in the Norwegian music industry, he has an impressive network, which he uses to bring talented artists to small-scale concerts at Stranden. You can't get closer to talent than that!
Give the gift of Risør!
Buy a gift card that can be used anywhere in Risør town; shops, restaurants, nightlife, accommodation.

Since its inception in 1992, The Real Thing has played more than 1,700 concerts and sold over 55,000 records of hard-swinging, organ-based soul jazz inspired by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, George Benson and Wes Montgomery.
The band that "never leaves the stage in a dry tuxedo" has built up a solid fan base outside the jazz community. Organist Palle Wagnberg, guitarist Staffan William-Olsson, saxophonist Dave Edge and drummer Hermund Nygård are looking forward to firing up the Hammond organ, checking that the loop is straight and playing old and new repertoire.
Check out The Real Thing's latest album, Living It Up from 2023 (Spotify).

Bent Bredesen, Trond Bredesen and Pål Reinertsen make up this very special trio. They perform the concert under very special conditions. Rhythmic sports romance. Skillingsongs with high precision and quality. And not least with humor in a class of its own.
Welcome to a concert with Signe Førre, the singing bassist who first visited the jazz club in 2022.
The musical fervor and rhythmic complexity of the Balkan Peninsula's cultural heritage has made Signe Førre want to blend this with the distinctive Norwegian musical tradition. The result is a cohesive new expression in which Signe leads a quartet that has tentacles into a wide range of genres. The music is a journey into Signe's musical universe where folk music and jazz merge, with songs in Serbian, Macedonian, English, Norwegian and Bulgarian, to name but a few.
The debut album Fagert was released in 2024 and is definitely worth checking out (Spotify).
Signe Førre - double bass, vocals
Torbjørn Økland - trumpet, bouzouki, guitar
Irene Tillung - accordion
Stein Inge Brækhus - drums, percussion

Maridalen's three albums have received rave reviews. The debut album was placed on the list of "Norway's best of the year" by Aftenposten, while MOJO Magazine placed the album on "Jazz albums of the Year".
All four musicians in Maridalen Trio with Erland Dahlen are from Agder, Vestfold and Telemark, but the trio takes its name from the scenic valley just north of central Oslo. The valley also leaves its physical mark on the music itself, with recordings made both in the old wooden church in Maridalen and at one of the DNT cabins on Gressholmen.
After the brilliant reception of the debut, the follow-up Bortenfor was mentioned among "The best jazz albums of 2022" in Dagsavisen, and "Album of the month" in German radio WDR.
In April 2023, the trio set sail for the island of Gressholmen in the Oslofjord, where they recorded their third album in one of the Norwegian Tourist Association's cabins. The album has received well-deserved attention from the Norwegian and international press, and the trio topped it off with two sold-out release concerts during this year's Oslojazz, where they also had Erland Dahlen as a guest. In the spring of 2025, they will bring their music home to Agder, Vestfold and Telemark. With concerts in Romania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and England - with highlights such as the London Jazz Festival - they have also invited the international jazz scene into the beautiful valley.
Anders Hefre - saxophones/clarinet
Jonas Kilmork Vemøy - trumpet
Andreas Rødland Haga - double bass
Erland Dahlen - percussion
