Saturday is once again the day for the annual summer market at Torvet in Risør, and we have many exciting creamers signed up. People come from far and wide to sell their self-produced and reused goods. Risør By AS has been a little stricter this year in requiring the goods to be self-produced or reused, which we believe will provide an even more exciting market.
The June market will be special this year, as we will be visited by the Sørumsand school band who will be playing horn music. They will be playing on the pavement outside Risør Trebåtfestival's offices at Torvet 1. I think this will create a fantastic atmosphere when Torvet fills up with stalls and tables, even though the weather forecasters are threatening rain in the morning.
The market will offer a wide range of goods, and there will be some knitwear, but everything is self-produced, so nothing is the same. I don't think it matters if there are several people offering the same thing. Competition between retailers is healthy, and what they sell doesn't compete with what the stores offer. This provides an extra offer for those who make the Saturday trip to the city.
Junimarkedet is the third market of the year at Torvet. On the first Saturday after the school holidays have begun, the town is full of people. Many of the permanent residents haven't taken their holidays yet, while many of the cottagers have moved in for the summer. There are also a good number of tourists in the town, and some visitors come specifically to visit the market. "The markets are a great attraction for the town, and those who are here stay longer when there's something going on at Torvet.
"We'd like to see more local participants at the markets that are held at Torvet several times a year. I know there are many people in Risør who collect different things and perhaps have something they want to sell. They are very welcome to join the market. Just send me an email and I'll get them signed up. The next market will be in August.
Welcome to Torvet! We look forward to welcoming all products of good quality and want Risør to be seen as a quality-conscious town.
Sincerely,
Mona Rhein
